HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
POSTER SESSION FAQ
What is a Poster Session?
A poster session is an opportunity for students and professionals to present their work in an informal context. It’s a great way to dip your toe into the conference presentation waters. Unlike a traditional session, all of the posters are set up at once, and each presenter is expected to stand with their poster for the entirety of the session to answer questions from passers-by.
Do I have to be registered for the conference to participate?
Yes.
How much does it cost to participate in the Poster Session?
It’s free as long as you are registered as a chapter member for the conference.
Can multiple people present a poster together?
As long as at least one member of the team is a part of a Net Impact Chapter, multiple people can definitely work together to present their posters, but space is limited so we ask that no more than two presenters are at the poster during the session at once. Feel free to take turns presenting during the session. The chapter member should be the one who applies for the poster session if other team members are not chapter members. All team members must be registered for the conference.
How many other posters will there be?
We expect 50-100 posters and presenters in total.
When is the poster session?
Friday, October 25, 2019. There will be two hours of break time through the day where you will be able to present your poster.
Do I have to miss the conference sessions to present my poster?
No, we will only have the poster session open during breaks during the day on Friday, October 25. You will not have to miss any conference sessions to participate.
How do I make the poster?
Posters should ideally be max 48 x 36 inches. However, if you already have a poster of a different size you’d like to use, let us know and we’ll work with you to see if the space can accommodate it.
Need some tips about how to set up your poster or what to include? Here are a few good sites to check out, especially if you’re presenting research.
Will I get to do a formal presentation?
No, a poster session is a dynamic conversational presentation where attendees will visit you and engage with your poster. You should prepare a very short elevator pitch about your work and then be ready to answer questions. You should plan to engage many people throughout the Poster Session. Why should I participate?
Presenting a poster is a fantastic way to showcase your talents and specific areas of expertise to conference attendees, including companies, grad school recruiters, faculty, Net Impact members, and other professionals. Presenting your poster is a great networking tool that could result in new ideas or connections that strengthen your poster project and support your overall career development. In addition, presenting at the Net Impact conference is a great resume line item that shows off your work to future employers.
